I urge the government to either reconsider the cancellation of the cap and trade program, or to create a viable and robust replacement program as soon as possible. Climate change is one of the most significant challenges facing us, and for the sake of our children and grandchildren we must give it top priority.
I further urge this government to reinstate funding for the many valuable projects that were cancelled because the funding came from the cap and trade program. These were well researched and planned projects, many of which were well underway, and the loss of these programs is a severe set back that moves Ontario from the forefront of the fight against climate change to well back of many other parts of the world. It is also costing us, the taxpayers of Ontario, potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars in fees, repayments, court costs and lost revenue. It is a very short-sighted decision that seems to be based on political posturing rather than science and research!
