I do NOT support the proposed changes to the Planning Act. They are a step backwards in land planning, democracy, and environmental protections.
These changes only favour developers. Removing the ability of Conservation Authorities to comment on applications will have devastating effects to our environment, especially our delicate wetland systems.
Citizen deserve a say in the planning proposals that will affect them. Removing their ability to appeal destroys the democracy of the planning process.
These changes put the onus on developers to do right by municipalities, citizens, and the environment. Historically, developers have not proven capable of doing so. They are motivated by their bottom lines. It has been the municipalities, Conservation Authorities, and public who have pushed for better developments.
Please DO NOT approve Bill 23.
