The proposed amendments to the Greenbelt plan are completely unacceptable. What Ontario needs is greater protection for our precious natural spaces. Many of the areas that the Ontario government is suggesting could be swapped are already protected. They may not be part of the current Greenbelt, but they are protected areas, so this swap wouldn't truly add any additional protected areas.

Also, the many natural spaces in Greenbelt areas draw people to the region. They are part of what makes people want to visit or near the area. This brings money to the region. Natural spaces are very important not just to the economy, but to the health of people and the environment. Paving natural areas and arable lands is very short-sighted. This is a betrayal of a campaign promise not to consider the development of Greenbelt land. If your government can't be trusted on this, why should voters trust anything you say?
