The Ontario government promised it would not touch the Greenbelt. This proposal is a betrayal of that promise. It does not matter that the proposal includes plans to designate other areas as part of the Greenbelt - it still results in wetland and other protected areas being bulldozed, causing a great disruption and destruction of the local ecosystems.

In particular, in Hamilton, this is coming alongside a demand to expand the urban boundary, despite a clear popular mandate and council support NOT to do so. There are areas WITHIN existing urban boundaries to develop and re-develop. Pushing into our dwindling green space is selling short our future to try to bandage problems that need other solutions, like better regulation of home ownership, rental controls, and economic policies including progressive taxation and wealth redistribution.

This plan caters once again to the already wealthy developers who do not care if the future is made worse by their efforts. It is immoral and should not be allowed to continue.
