Ford promised to protect and not develop the greenbelt. He needs to remain accountable to this promise.
There is a reason this area is protected and I have yet to see any supporting scientific information that shows developing on this land will not cause severe environmental impacts, both in terms of wildlife and in terms of future effects such as flooding. Aside from the fact that this land is PROTECTED LAND (which will have no meaning anymore if we can just reassign based on a whim), and aside from the fact that he promised not to touch it, there should have been multiple environmental consultations before this was confirmed.
We are not a separate entity from nature and the climate, what we do to it will come back to us three fold. We can increase housing supply without sprawl, and I am sure that the government has had ten suggestions better than this that have been ignored to cater to Fords “developer friends”.
I and a majority of Ontarioans are disgusted by this.
