I believe there are other areas and methods (dense housing like condos & apartments instead of simple horizontal expansion) that can and should receive the focus of housing development that must be prioritized before considering touching the greenbelt.

"The Greenbelt Plan, together with the ORMCP and the NEP, identifies where
urbanization should not occur in order to provide permanent protection to the
agricultural land base [...]"

I believe we should respect the spirit of the plan and it's intent of permanence. I believe the following snippets from ontario.ca's greenbelt plan PDF quickly sum up why we should keep our focus on other areas:

"These natural areas clean the air, provide drinking water, provide
diverse flora and fauna habitats, including pollinators, and they provide
opportunities for recreational activities that benefit public health and overall
quality of life."

"The Greenbelt is a broad band of permanently protected land which: [...] Builds resilience to and mitigates climate change."

Reducing the greenbelt even by a tiny bit, when there are other areas suitable for development, is a major step in the wrong direction for the climate crisis that is continuing to head downhill. These areas are also what make Canada beautiful and unique and preserving them for future generations to experience should also be considered.
