I strongly believe this should not be passed. Solving a housing shortage by taking away green space and municipal governments ability to work with developers is not the answer.

Ontarians need access to green space, in a time of climate change we should be protecting these spaces even more. There are many areas outside of the green belt that would be available for development. The smaller communities within being forced to accept developers plans with no ability to contribute or request additional support from developers to provide infrastructure and services to all of these new residents is unacceptable. I live in a community that since 2020 had seen thousands of people move from the GTA or beyond to hundreds of new homes and our community can not keep up with the fast expansion with services that are expected. To take away that bargaining power of municipalities when working with developers is irresponsible governing by the province at best.

The province needs to bring an idea to the table that supports its municipalities and its green spaces while finding solutions to a housing shortage which has much to do with cost of homes vs. Quantity. And to also show they care about the quality of life these residents can live in a new home, which won’t be much when municipalities can’t afford to infrastructure to support new residents.
