Our green belt is there for a reason. Blind adherence to economic growth in the face of environmental constraints is the height of hubris. We have a systems that requires a house in order to have any financial stability or to retire peacefully. Have we forgotten that a house is the thing that you live in, not the thing I need to sell to retire? We need to build up and in, not out. No more suburban sprawl.
