I am very concerned that the Government is cancelling Cap and Trade without any plan to reduce greenhouse gases or address climate change.
Cap and Trade and carbon taxes are market based tools to address the issue of CO2 pollution. They are conservative ways of dealing with a serious problem.
This Government now has no policy to deal with climate change. It is irresponsible and shameful.
It is easy to eliminate a policy you do not like, the challenge will be to create a different policy that addresses the issue in a meaningful way.
I fear the present Government has no idea what policy it can adopt since it has ruled out market based mechanisms to deal with CO2.
Conservatives used to be known for wanting to conserve the environment and adopting policies that safeguarded our children's future. This Bill destroys the good work of others and offers no alternatives to one of the most pressing problems we face.
