In general, I fully support the idea of the Greenbelt and am dismayed by the planned removal of some protected lands.
In my opinion, removal of protected farmland is of far less importance than protection of natural wildlife areas. As well, we should do our outmost to make sure that this removal of land from the Greenbelt does not further lead to additional removals in the future. It is not sufficient to swap land very close to the urban core for newly protected lands 100s of km away - my fear is that if we do this we are simply going to be moving the Greenbelt up and away from the urban core in a never ending series of land swaps.
As such, I suggest that not only should the land swap result in net positive of additional lands being protected but the land should also be swapped in the same geographic area/location. And furthermore, the additional land should solely be natural wildlife protected areas in that area/location. (even if this means that protected farmland is used for this purpose)
