Proposed changes to Greenbelt acreage ERO#019-6216
The proposed changes reduce the Greenbelt by whittling away at it bit by bit until it will no longer be effective as a protection of the ecological and hydrological features of the Oak Ridges moraine. By allowing development to eat away af the Greenbelt it appears the real intent of the Greenbelt was to hold land ready for development. In the write-up under Context, it indicated the intent of the Greenbelt was to "provide permanent protection to the agricultural land base and the ecological and hydrological features, areas and functions."
The need for housing is real but the reduction of the Greenbelt next to built up areas and the loss of the natural benefits will make an overall negative impact on the Greater Golden Horseshoe Region. It will reduce the quality of life in the areas. There have to be less harmful ways of creating more housing quickly.
