Dear Mr. Ford:
In 2020 you said "we won't build on the Greenbelt." Yet now your government is preparing to allow housing on 7,400 acres of land in the Greenbelt, and the sale of lands owned by our Conservation Authorities. I am appalled by these actions, which are completely unnecessary for addressing the housing crisis as noted by your very own Housing Affordability Taskforce. Sacrificing critically important natural areas and farmlands is not the way to create housing. We have much better options as the Task Force noted.
Your government keeps saying it won't touch the Greenbelt, yet it seems like every few years we hear of another plan to open it to development. This must stop. It is time to keep your promise to keep the Greenbelt permanently off limits to development. There is no question that the vast majority of Ontarians want to see the Greenbelt and Conservation Lands protected. Why is your government not listening or respecting its own promises?
Sincerely,
A Concerned Ontario Voter
