We need more affordable housing, yes.
But not when it comes at the expense of Nature and Ontario’s farmland. Urban sprawl into protected areas is not the solution. Once buried under houses, it’s gone forever.
Urban densification is a better solution.
Providing government financial incentives to families to relocate to another municipality or even to another province is another better solution.
Planning new neighbourhoods in a more sustainable manner is another better solution.
Expanding rapid transit and making it more affordable, or free - another better solution.
With the exception of a small minority (West 5 in London for example) housing developers prove over and over that they don’t care about the big picture.
What matters most is protecting Nature, biodiversity, and our farmland.
You listened to your people a few years ago, Ford. What’s changed since then? Climate change is worse. Nature and biodiversity are struggling more, not less. It’s more important now than ever, so, hands off the Greenbelt!
