I am writing to voice my objection to Bill 23.
Bill 23 is in blatant disregard of Hamilton’s recent referendum where the city’s citizens voted overwhelmingly to freeze its urban boundary and protect the surrounding green space and farmlands. These lands are urgently needed to protect the ecological integrity of the land, to support natural habitats, prevent flooding and ensure our future food sources.
While I support the acceleration of affordable housing it should not be at the cost of our Greenbelt. There are many grey zones and other areas within existing city boundaries that could be developed without paving green space or incurring further infrastructure costs.
I urge you to stop all plans to further remove protected land from the Greenbelt and to ensure the protection of all existing farmland and green spaces in the province.
