These will essentially remove any ability to protect wetlands in this province. Already southwestern Ontario has lost over 80% of its historic wetlands. Wetlands provide valuable and quantifiable ecological goods and services, such as clean water, flood and erosion protection, enhanced groundwater recharge and high biodiversity. This damages our province financially and will result in increased costs of living through insurance, disasters, soil loss and direct impacts on human health.
This is a policy change designed to remove protections under the guise of providing housing. We all know we don’t need to develop wetlands to build more housing - sustainable communities need to address density and build up, not out.
This is a clear and blatant act of cronyism and corruption by the provincial government.
The people of Ontario refuse to allow you to destroy what’s left of our natural resources.
