Wetlands play a critical role in the ecosystem. They should remain absolutely off limits for development. The protections around them should be strengthened not weakened. The proposed changes quite literally pave the way to destroying a valuable component of our ecosystem.

You do not need to pave over wetlands to build homes. There are so many places in Ontario that could be built upward in density to solve the housing crisis. These homes will flood, and it will only get worse due to the climate crisis.

The new proposals for wetlands are unacceptable. Ecosystems are complex and fragile. Once you build on a wetland, you not only harm this balance, but you put the homes built there at risk. Short term gain for long term pain. Anyone who has taken any geography classes would understand this.

Premier Ford, only you can protect Ontarios wetlands. Once they’re destroyed, they can’t be rebuilt, it is imperative that new housing be placed on existing developed space as much as humanly possible and that outward expansion is minimized, NOT to pave our wetlands. Read more
