Building housing on the green belt would require massive investment in roads, utilities, sewers and public transit, no to mention support services like schools, healthcare, police and firefighters.

This project would likely increase car flow into Toronto/Downtown further increasing traffic and car related pollution.

The same level of housing could be easily achieved with massive savings to infrastructure by increasing density in existing neighborhoods, such and those surrending Bloor and Danforth, which are close to downtown, surrounded by mostly single family homes, and low rise buildings.

A cynical person might think this is a ploy to funnels public funds into private developers.

We know what good urbanism looks like. The Green Belt re zoning is not it.
