Bill 23 is detrimental to the present and future population of Ontario. It has been proven that sprawl outside the urban boundaries of Ontario is not necessary, and affordable housing can more easily be achieved with new bylaws and densification and keeping development within existing boundaries. The Greenbelt is a crucial and necessary part of our safety plan to survive the effects of climate change and our only chance at helping us adapt to the flooding, drought, and extreme weather that we will experience in our recent future.
Protecting our ecosystem must be the priority above all else in order for our future to be secure. Once we allow the paving of highways, the sprawl that follows, and the opening of the Greenbelt for further development, there is a dangerous precedent set; one that opens the door to any leader who prioritizes political support or monetary wealth over natural lands and rural areas that sustain us all (usually for the benefit of a few). By protecting the Greenbelt and repealing Bill 23, once again Ontario shows the world it values conservation of natural spaces. Ontario's people have spoken, protested (many times over the years to save greenspaces) and their democratic voice will be heard if we repeal Bill 23. Thank you.
