Noise of development and ancillary traffic: affects wildlife; existing boundary residences
Air Pollution: during construction; additional and lengthy trips to work/recreation
Infrastructure: paid by municipalities, yet future developments should include costs of recreation, parks, roads, underground services both inside and outside the lands.... should be covered by development charges not taxation by future generations.
Destruction of Habitat and Wildlife corridors: wildlife need contiguous spaces and corridors for living and migrating. Development and transportation corridors will carve those spaces. The science has proved that animal life previously co-existing with man is now extinct or at risk. Development in the Greenbelt will exacerbate this. https://www.natureconservancy.ca/en/where-we-work/ontario/our-work/natu…
Delay of Intensification: Development of suburbs in the Greenbelt delays the inevitability of intensification of urban areas that must accommodate future population of the GTHA. Suburbanization has contributed to the decay of city centres. file:///C:/York%20Urbanist/Environment/Grove_Paul.pdf
Farms Feed Cities: Removing farms for development causes transportation cost increases. Farms in the Greenbelt occupy some of the richest remaining soils in Southern Ontario. Production on lesser soils is less efficient. https://neptis.org/publications/chapters/where-are-significant-agricult…
