I vehemently oppose the opening up of the Greenbelt for development. This will destroy forests and wetlands and imperil precious farmland. It threatens to extirpate the redside dace, a fish listed as endangered under the federal Species at Risk Act. It will incentivize car travel, jeopardizing Canada’s ability to meet its climate targets. In an era of climate crisis, this is literally the last thing we need. It's honestly laughable as a solution.

What the province is proposing will make life more expensive for people because they'll have to commute farther to get to work. It will be costly for municipalities as well, because it's much more expensive to service sprawl and we're all going to pay for it with our tax dollars. What we actually need is to eliminate exclusionary zoning within cities and increase mid density housing in residential areas and make better use of existing infrastructure.

I do not support this greenbelt proposal in any way, shape or form. I do not want to enrich Ford's developers/donors, who appear to have been tipped off about this deal change in advance. That's gross and unethical. We must not increase sprawl, we must maintain our precious arable lands and ecological environments for generations to come.

This must not happen if we care about Ontario's future.
