It is reprehensible, what Doug Ford is doing to the Greenbelt.

First, he promised Ontarians in the past, repeatedly, that he would not do exactly what he is doing -- opening it for "development".

Second, it is incredibly suspicious, to say the least, that "somehow" all these developers knew to invest HUGE sums of money, some even borrowing at very high (21%!) interest rates, in this land. No developer would invest in protected land that can't be developed; it would be the financially dumbest decision. The ONLY reason they invested in this land is because they knew Doug Ford was going to change the law and let them at it. Which is criminal. In the stock market, this would be "insider trading", and it most certainly is corrupt.

Third, this land is not even necessary in order to meet Ontario's housing demands. We already have enough existing land slotted for development, that we don't need to develop land that was set aside two decades ago, to preserve a legacy of natural beauty, species diversity, and ecological integrity, for ALL Ontarians, for ALL time. Again, this is criminal, if not legally then certainly morally.

Being a "man for the people" does not mean being a man for a tiny, rich, number of people who donate vast sums to your political party's campaigns. It means being for all the people in the province, the vast, vast majority of whom are going to lose their future collective inheritance, all so a handful of Ford supporters, who are already wealthy, can get even more wealthy.
