Removing part of the green belt to build more homes will be detrimental to our society. This green belt is the main land for fruit and vegetable growth in Ontario. If COVID have taught us nothing it should have made our country more aware of the need to be self sustainable. We can not count on other countries to supply us with basic needs such as fresh fruits and vegetables. There is more than enough “land” to build houses on in our province that does not affect our sustainability. Realistically- the best land to build housing on is the land that is not productive or viable for food sources. It’s a shame that for decades our government has allowed the purchase of so many old family farms to develop.
I also find it rather interesting how the land was sold just weeks before the proposed change. This is yet another instance where the government officials that we should trust to lead us are capitalizing and helping out their already wealthy friends and family. I am so sad at what our province and country have become over the last few years. We need to wake up and realize that if we are going to flourish as a country, we need to be more sustainable…and taking away our green belt for more homes is the exact opposite direction our province needs to take.
