The proposal in Bill 23 to remove lands from the Greenbelt in order to develop them is short-sighted and will not help alleviate the housing crisis. All this plan will accomplish is some short-term money-making for developers, while paving over lands that are important for farming and for flood control. Instead, Ontario should focus efforts on urban intensification, affordable housing, and smart city planning that considers the importance of Greenbelt areas for protection of the future. Widespread urban wastelands will do nothing to help our children and grandchildren deal with the effects of climate change.
This bill will also be costly for municipal governments and individual citizens.
Please reconsider. This is a harmful bill that is most certainly not “for the people”.
