With respect, I am horrified at the way the provincial government is trying to ram through change to environmental lands that have been designated significant for 17 years. You cannot remove parts of these lands and just "plant" more. You cannot plant an ecosystem. These lands are significant because they help destress the groundwater and help avoid flooding.

It is very clear to all that this is a land grab by wealthy developers who have no intention of building affordable housing. As Doug would say "let's be very clear about that". The Conservative party is fooling no one with this line about being concerned about housing.

"It is the government’s expectation that construction of these new homes will begin on these lands by no later than 2025, and that significant progress on approvals and implementation be achieved by the end of 2023." - is this a joke? Who on EARTH are you going to find available to start building within that framework unless this has been planned for years. There are building shortages, there is worker shortages.

Doug, how much do YOU stand to make off this move yourself?

One of the developers has borrowed $1,000,000 at a 21% interest to buy adjacent land. These moves are so clearly self-serving and profitable to the few. There is no concern for 'affordable housing" and there is no environmental respect. I am apauled and absolutely opposed to opening up the greenbelt for development. Stop this behaviour immediately.
