1. This proposal violates UNDRIP - see Articles 24-29 among others. The Indigenous Peoples of these areas have the right to meaningful consultation prior to any development. These rights are upheld in the Canadian Constitution. The Mississaugas of Scugog Island have shared their disapproval of this proposal as have the Chiefs of Ontario. Removing land from the Greenbelt is illegal and undemocratic.

2. The Greenbelt is necessary for our own survival providing natural water and air purification, carbon capture and flood prevention. It is absolutely more costly in the long run to pave over these free services provided by nature. They took 12,000 years to create and once they are paved over, they are gone FOREVER.

3. The conservation authoritites and municipalities have outlined more than enough space for the desired development capacity. Housing is needed. There is room. Start there.

This is clearly not the right path. The citizens you serve deserve better. Listen to the experts, not the developers. Go back to the drawing board and come up with a better plan.
