Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the proposed amendments with respect to the concerning issues of Floating Accommodations.
On behalf of my family, we are in total support of the proposed amendments for all the reasons mentioned in the summary.
We are concerned that without some enhanced regulations, as proposed herein, this business of building, renting, purchasing and using “floating accommodations” will have a
growing negative impact on the safe and sustained usage of the Trent Severn Waterways (and elsewhere) and will increasingly have the potential to cause environmental and safety issues.
Unrestricted ‘docking’ of these accommodations has the possibility of creating potential adversarial human behaviors which would require policing action and could lead to personal harm.
Whereas for example cottagers pay significant property (including municipal and school) taxes and are highly regulated with building (for both over land-built and over-water built) standards, codes (including sewage) and easements it will be unwise and unfair for these “floating accommodations” to be able to fully occupy and use the waterways without paying their share of residential taxes as well as have unregulated and no restrictions on the building standards and safe use of these facilities.
In conclusion, usage of these floating accommodations violates the natural order of the established, safe, equitable and environmentally responsible use, enjoyment and protection of our lands and waterways.
