There is no business on a dead planet.
There are no jobs on a dead planet.
Therefore we must keep our planet alive by keeping climate change at a minimum.
We cannot allow climate change to hit the tipping point at which we no longer have control over the climate change and its effects. That tipping point will come if we allow the carbon stores on earth (such as permafrost) to melt, and thus release carbon into the atmosphere without us being able to control it anymore.
There is now new evidence for this urgency to keep climate change below 1.5 degrees instead of 2 degrees. It comes from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. See link: http://www.ipcc.ch/report/sr15/
We need:
1. A real climate change plan to reduce emissions, to help people save money by saving energy and to create jobs in the $26 trillion clean economy.
2. Adoption of a price on carbon pollution through a fee-and-dividend plan, which would charge polluters and return the money to the pockets of Ontarians.
3. Legally binding emissions targets in line with our obligations to the Paris Climate Agreement.
4. The redirection of fossil fuel subsidies into clean energy solutions.
5. If all of the above is not enough to keep climate change at a minimum and to keep our planet alive, then we need to take more steps than the above.
