While I support the idea that any project (housing development, road, mine, oil and gas development etc) should not be approved if there is no current or anticipated need for the product this proposed regulation lacks a key element. Renewable energy projects should go ahead if they are replacing non-renewable energy such as oil/gas/coal or nuclear based electricity generation. As long as these projects meet permitting and environmental assessment requirements they are an important step in weaning ourselves off of greenhouse gas emissions or nuclear waste. Those renewable projects already in development should not be cancelled unless they are causing environmental harm through pollution or habitat destruction. We need to grow our green economy now.
