I am extremely disappointed in the new Ontario government for their hasty dismantling of the cap and trade system. This decision was purely one of political pandering to a base of supporters rather than a thoughtful decision in light of evidence and data. Climate change is already having an impact on Ontario and our government needs to have the strength to make difficult decisions which may impact voters but will ultimately move us to a more secure future amidst a changing climate. To dismantle this system without a plan moving forward is frustratingly short-sighted. The UN has just released their report which is calling for urgent action on behalf of countries throughout the world. This danger to all Canadians, and to Ontarians cannot be taken lightly. I fear that this government is doing exactly that under the guise of adding more money to the pockets of voters. A few more dollars in our pockets will matter very little if our new reality includes increased natural disasters and the destruction which comes along with it because our government did not take the actions necessary to decrease our carbon emissions.
