Hello,

The leading international climate change researches just released a report detailing what it would take to curb warming at 1.5 °C. The report states it would take a massive effort from everyone, and even if the 1.5-degree can be achieved, the changes already set in motion are going to be devastating.

To achieve the goal, the scientific panel categorically states that a price must be put on carbon emissions across the globe. More than 50 carbon pricing initiatives are already implemented or scheduled to come into effect. This is a crucial step in making any significant progress towards slowing down climate change.

Shutting down the Cap and Trade program is backwards, myopic, and deleterious not only to Ontarians, but to all Canadians. By closing this program, we are giving up our position as leaders in climate change and demoralizing efforts of other governments who are trying to impose carbon tax.

While taxing pollution must be done on the government level, there are many individual actions public can participate in. One of the most effective ways to reduce an individual’s greenhouse gas emissions is to drive an electric vehicle. By closing the Cap and Trade program which financed the Ontario EV Incentive program, Ontario government is hurting the adoption of electric vehicles and prevents people from contributing to the struggle with climate change.

I want Ontario to keep and increase carbon pricing under the Cap and Trade program.
I want Ontario to continue leading efforts in combating climate change by establishing emissions targets to fulfill and surpass our obligations to the Paris Climate Agreement.
I want Ontario to institute tax on gas-powered vehicles and to restore incentives on electric vehicles.
I want Ontario to be 100% powered by clean energy by 2050.
I want Ontario to set a goal for all new cars to have zero emission by 2030.

Thank you,
