I believe this proposal and the amendment to allow the transport of preserved baitfish and leeches is an excellent way to provide anglers looking to fish in rural Ontario with better chances of successful fishing harvests. The 2022 regulations really impacted those whose retailer was just beyond the boundaries set out in these regulations and, those who are travelling to very remote locations of Ontario. These areas allow the use of live bait, however finding a retailer to aquire fresh legal bait can be almost impossible. At least with this amendment, preserved bait fish would allows anglers to be substantially more successful in their harvesting and potentially incentivize fishermen to plan trips more often and stay for longer periods of time, thus contributing to rural communities economical health.
