“There’s a new normal in Canada on the issue of climate change,” said Abacus chairman Bruce Anderson. “Half of voters won’t consider politicians who don’t take the issue seriously – and most other voters also believe action is needed and inaction will result in catastrophe.”
In order to stave off an inevitable climate catastrophe, the carbon pricing recommended by the new IPCC Report, indicates that a fee would need to be increased to $5,500 (USD) or $49.00 per gallon of gas by 2030 and $27,000 per ton, or $240 (USD) per gallon by the end of the century. Yes Mr. Ford, they are saying that it is time to move away from the burning of fossil fuels VERY RAPIDLY or face horrific consequences. The cap and trade is far from what is necessary, but your unwillingness to take even that minimal action, doesn't inspire confidence that you are truly "for the little guy." Especially when transitioning away from fossil fuels represents a $26 TRILLION global economic opportunity over the next decade: an economic opportunity where the same investment in fossil fuel projects vs cleantech projects, results in infinitely more cleantech jobs.
The necessary action (indicated above by scientific/economic experts) to save millions of lives and trillions (54) of dollars in expenses caused by catastrophic severe weather incidents (not to mention the human misery that will result) is what is required. Repealing a carbon tax that already falls far short of what is required, without anything to replace it... is beyond irresponsible. You are well aware that we are unquestionably heading toward a climate crisis so extreme that it threatens to bring about a mass extinction. Ignoring it is a crime against humanity.
