From my perspective, the emerald shiner abundance has been increasing to my benefit for the last few years. I have been working hard to minimize my waste by means of learning biological filtration and by figuring out ways to reduce stress (especially at the front end of the harvest). Part of me makes me wonder how much improvement I would have made if I had a convenient way to preserve my losses? (steel sharpens steel)
I'm not likely to change what I'm currently doing, but I would support the idea to support fishing in other regions. I would be researching how to correctly preserve the bait to ensure the pathogens are dealt with.
I've never considered selling leeches, but if these was a dealer, I might stock some in my store.
I hope my input is useful. Gratitude to all involved.
