Please consider ‘flowering rush’ to be a Prohibited species, rather than Restricted. This species has spread rapidly in NW Ontario, clogging shorelines, shallows and beaches.
Fish spawning grounds and native aquatic plants are being devastated, with consequent effects on wildlife in our area.
Efforts to remove it are long and arduous, a constant battle to keep docks and beaches accessible.
Without access to beaches, tourism will suffer, harvesting wild rice will suffer as this extremely adaptable invasive species becomes more wide spread.
