The Cap and Trade Cancellation Act, 2018, leaves me felling discouraged, disillusioned, and pessimistic about any positive steps being taken by the current government of Ontario to deal effectively with the indisputable threat of climate change. Why?
* Cap and Trade was working. Ontario was slowly turning the emissions behemoth around, with the growing support of citizens and industry. The passing of the Cancellation Act will stop this progress in its tracks.
* It is difficult to believe that a new climate change strategy will address the emissions issue effectively, when the previous policy was cancelled so hastily, and with so little thought. The recent cancellation of effective programs supporting alternative energy research, development, and use, render Premier Ford's purported belief in climate change questionable at best.
* The IPCC Report leaves NO doubt that leaders must take climate change seriously. It takes courage and resolve to meet challenges head on, and the Ford government shows neither. I am mystified by a government that seems bent on returning to the Dark Ages, rather than moving us all into a future bright with hope and a healthier environment. MY government "for the people" bases its decisions on what serves its people most effectively. The cancellation of hard won and increasingly effective environmental policies does not serve the people of Ontario well.
