As a citizen of Canada, a nation once praised for its progressive polices: I am shocked and appalled. As a citizen of the Earth, a planet unique for potentially billions or trillions of light-years: I am afraid. The claims made by our premier are truly terrifying. Designating a measure created by our government with the intention of safeguarding our world for the future of our species as a "bad tax" for the simple reason that it is a "bad tax" is shocking and baffling. There is no excuse for this. I am only part way though my university degree, but I have very little confidence that the world will still be there as we know it by the time I am ready to enjoy it. I do not blame our current government for the current dire state of the world. We have all done this to ourselves through our collective greed and willful ignorance. Qualities that are all too human. However, I do blame our current government for trying to backpedal on measures put in place to mitigate our damage to the planet. How greedy can you be Mr Ford? How little empathy must you have for your fellow man that you are indifferent to what could very well be one of the largest mass extinctions in history?
