The fact that this amendment is necessary attests to the fact that governments don't always act in the best long-term interests of it's people, nor do they listen to public outcry if it doesn't suit the needs of politicians friends and their profit margins. If the Ford Conservative government wants to ensconce it's name in history as anything other than a corrupt, shady, backroom deal-making tool for neoliberal capitalists, it can start by including language in this bill that would make it irrevocable and irreversible. That way, when the next corrupt leader that is elected tries to profit under the guise of "helping Ontarians," they won't be able to put Ontarians' property, food sources and lives at risk by trying to sell this important piece of our natural environment to their buddies.
