The Ontario Greenbelt must be fully protected at all costs. The value of the Ontario Greenbelt is incalculable as it it crucial to the Great Lakes ecosystem which is the largest freshwater ecosystem in the world. The individual components; intact farmland, rivers, wetlands, forests and lakes are integral and essential to the proper functioning and cycling of the entire ecosystem. These areas cannot be sectioned by highways and diminished by clear cutting and housing. The irreparable damage to this ecosystem that supports both Canadians and the US citizens that border the Great Lakes and live within the Great Lakes ecosystem would be catastrophic.
