When the greenbelt was initially established, I thought 'wow, what incredible foresight to protect land for our future generations to enjoy!'
When it was threatened by the Ford goevernment and developers, I was devestated.
The need for green space has been proven over and over, especially through the recent pandemic, and yet here were our elected officials trying to steal it away, using the need for more housing as an excuse.
This space needs to be protected in perpetuity, so that ALL Ontarians have access to green space to enjoy recreationally, as well as to local agrcultural land to grow and produce high quality food that does not have to be shipped long distances.
We need to protect habitat, to ensure the survival of many species that call the greenbelt home.
And, possibly most imprtantly, we need to keep the greenbelt intact to protect our water supply.
It is our responsibility to ensure these things remain so that our grandchildren and their grandchildren may enjoy the privilege of having this incredible space in our own backyard.
