Please remove all vertebrate animals from the Invasive Species Act. Any method of “control” is allowed under the act, regardless of animal welfare. And yet many animals, including big cats, non human primates, and megafauna are allowed to be bought, sold, bred, traded, etc in Ontario with no laws specifically protecting them. Anyone can run or own a zoo or exotic animal in Ontario without any legal restrictions.
Please instead create laws for the welfare and protection of exotic animals in captivity. There are no restrictions, licence, breeding, nor welfare requirements on exotic animals under the Animals in Captivity Act, PAWS, nor the FWCA. Currently, there are roughly 50 roadside zoos in Ontario, and countless exotic pets. Anyone can buy any animal at an auction. Ontario is truly the Tiger King Province. An Exotic Animal Protection Act would prevent invasive animals moving in, put rules into moving animals, prevent new roadside zoos, close the current ones, and protect the animals already living in captivity.
