I am not in support of York1 wanting to re-establish and expand the landfill in Dresden. The proposal would increase hazards to local roadways. Along with the added risk of noise and silica exposures in the community due to concrete processing for re-use. The local waterways would also be impacted going ro the Sydenham river and on to the St.Clair river. This will effect drinking water sources in the communities.
A full environmental assessment must be conducted to establish a baseline for the existing landfill facility and what historical materials are contained within. Former Sites in Lambton county have had hazardous waste deposited into them and resurfaced decades later, the Dresden site would not be any different If core samples are not taken and analyzed how could a conclusive assessment be completed and a baseline be established. If this is not undertaken the province and environment ministry would be exposed for future litigation for negligence.
