Your cancellation of the Cap and Trade program is an insult to myself, my children, my grandchildren and the generations that will follow. The United Nations intergovernmental panel on Climate Change just released it's fifth Assessment Report and the predictions are dire. If there isn't dramatic action taken NOW then there will be cataclismic consequences within 11 years. Now is not the time to put the breaks on climate change action. Ontario had a cooperative and competitive relationship with California, the 8th largest economic unit in the world, and now has NOTHING. The new proposal is "to prepare a climate change plan and to prepare progress reports in respect to that plan". No time frame for when this will happen, how long it will take to implement or what are the targets for green house gas reductions. You now want progress reports, but fail to share with Ontarions the progress being achieved by the Cap and Trade program and how the billions of dollars were being directly fed back into green house reducing activities. It seems to me that progress reports are meaningless to this government. What lingers still is the costs that will occur as a result of the cancellation. The new direction includes "payment by the Crown of compensation in respect of cap and trade instruments". No estimates of this cost nor of the cost of bad faith generated with all the industries that had entered into the cap and trade in trust and good faith that if they bought into this activity their efforts would be honoured. The bottom line however is that Ontario now has no action in place to reduce green house gas emissions and has no projected date to do so. Failure to act now will only contribute to the problem.
