I am commenting on the proposal for an interim combined sewer to support development at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard (Ontario Place). I am shocked that I even have to write this because, honestly, how short sighted can we be? It has taken decades for the City of Toronto to separate and replace combined sewers across the city to prevent the discharge of raw sewage into Lake Ontario. Now, we want to go against this which will undoubtedly negatively impact the wildlife and people that use this area for recreation. It also flies in the face of international agreements to protect water quality and habitat in the Great Lakes. Why do we think we can do this, for any amount of time, and have it work out ok? Water quality for beaches and fishing will decrease dramatically as a result. Don’t even get me started that there has been NO consultation with the general public about this. I’d that doesn’t make us realize how sneaky this is I don’t know what else to say.
This proposal to benefit private sector initiatives, is not in the public interest and threatens the stability of the lake ecosystem in a time of severe biodiversity loss. Please deny this permit.
