I am entirely opposed to the proposal for an interim combined sewer to support development at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard. Discharging raw sewage into Lake Ontario is unacceptable for the people who live in the City of Toronto and the ecosystems that exist in Lake Ontario. This proposal is at odds with the international agreements to protect water quality and habitat in the Great Lakes. Clean, safe, and drinkable water is a valuable resource and it is horrifying to know that our government would consider further compromising our water quality by dumping sewage in it. If this proposal were to pass it would directly threaten Ontarios water resources and ecosystem health, furthering our crisis of biodiversity loss. Additionally this decreases the wellbeing of citizens who utilize local beaches for leisure or fishing. This also detracts from the tourism within the Great Lakes region. It is deeply shocking that the province has not held any consultations about this work with the general public despite the impact that it will have on those of us living in the City of Toronto.
Destroying a future of a clean, safe, and publicly accessible waterfront in the most populated city in Canada is disgraceful. It is clear that this proposal has been designed to benefit the private sector rather than the interest of current and future generations of Torontonians. Please deny this permit.
