I am commenting on the proposed interim combined sewer to support development at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard, Ontario Place. As a civil engineer, I am opposed to the proposal which goes against decades of work by the City of Toronto to replace historic combined sewers across the City to prevent the discharge of raw sewage into Lake Ontario. It violates international agreements to protect water quality and habitat in the Great Lakes. The proposed combined sewer will discharge effluent that is a risk to human health for water quality at beaches, fishing and impacts the water quality of the Lake as an attraction to visitors. The province has not held any consultations about this work with the general public, who should have a say on how this public space is re-developed. This proposal is not in the public interest and threatens water quality in Lake Ontario. Please deny this ECA.
