Please cease all plans to route the sewage from the proposed Therme spa into the breakwater between the shore of Lake Ontario and the development which sits to the west of ON Place. This includes planned development at 955 Lakeshore Boulevard (Ontario Place).
These waters have been used by human-powered pleasure craft as well as by competitive paddlers and rowers for DECADES. This is the reason the protected racecourse was created across from the Argonaut Rowing club as it is used for both paddling and rowing events in the City of Toronto.
International level events, in addition to hundreds of outrigger paddlers, SUP paddlers, dragon boat paddlers and rowers use the waters behind the entirety of the western breakwall (that spans from ON place to the Humber River) for training on a daily basis from March/April until the water freezes (this year, that was January).
To route any type of sewage or waste into these waters would essentially create a cesspool along the shoreline and prevent the above regular users and any casual beach goers and casual paddlers from taking advantage of what our waterfront in Toronto has to offer.
This proposal goes against decades of infrastructure work by the City of Toronto that has separated and replaced combined sewars across the City to prevent the discharge of raw sewage into Lake Ontario. It is also a violation of International Water Quality Agreements that are in place to protect the water quality and habitat of the Great Lakes.
Please deny this permit and support an already vibrant and thriving waterfront and the quality of the waters in and around the City.
