There are concerns that large-scale development here could release substantial greenhouse gases and disrupt ecosystems that have been stable for millennia.

It feels like a balanced, careful approach would make the most sense. Things like thorough environmental assessments, sustainable mining practices, meaningful involvement from Indigenous communities, and strong conservation efforts could help manage the risks while still pursuing the economic upside.
