It is outrageous that a government that has shown time and again that it is incapable of doing due diligence in establishing how to safely and/or efficiently begin construction projects is trying to "cut red tape," around endangered species in this province.
There are several species through the recklessness of our predecessors that have been extirpated from Ontario. Species of birds, mammals, reptiles, fish, plants, etc. We have also successfully reintroduced species like the wild turkey and trumpeter swan, which required great efforts to re-establish here.
There is no highway (certainly not the 413 or Bradford Bypass) and especially no spa that is worth the loss of species in Ontario such as red headed woodpeckers, or the red side dace (a species that the federal government has put a good deal of our tax dollars into protecting!)
Ontarians are just finding out that this government bulldozed any and all nature at the Ontario Place site to make room for a spa being built by a company without the financial resources to build it! This demonstrates that not only does this government not do the very basic kind of preparations (e.g., credit checks!), but that you do not have the expertise or know-how to replace the opinions of Ontario's Conservation Authorities, the Ministry of Transportation (whose reports on the highways you have ignored), or the the Ministry of the Environment.
"Red tape," as the premier likes to call it, protects the people of this province and leaves a legacy for those that will come after us. No good can come from "simplifying" the Endangered Species Act in Ontario.
