Hello, this site is within the traditional lands of Flying Post First Nation which i am a member along with my children. Fresh Water extraction on First Nations traditional territory poses significant ethical, environmental, and cultural concerns. First and foremost, these lands hold deep spiritual and cultural significance for Flying Post members, and any disturbance can lead to the erosion of their heritage and identity. Furthermore, lack of fresh water can have detrimental impacts on local ecosystems, leading to habitat destruction, which are vital for Fish, wildlife and the communities that depend on them. Additionally, the lack of meaningful consultation and consent with First Nations community members living in the Timmins area undermines their rights and sovereignty, often resulting in conflicts and social unrest with members living in the Timmins area, and the elected "Indian Act" Chief and Council who reside in Nipigon outside Treaty 9 and have never resided in Flying Post traditional territory. Respecting our traditional territories and individual rights as treaty members living in the area is essential in fostering a collaborative relationship that prioritizes both environmental stewardship and social justice. Consulting with the "Indian Act" Chief and Council is not good enough, local members must be engaged with to understanding the deep-rooted connection that local members have with their land is essential. These territories are not just physical spaces; they embody their history, traditions, and identity. The long-term environmental consequences from extracting fresh water can jeopardize the resources that local members rely on for their sustenance and cultural practices, further compounding the issues they face. I do not give my Free, Prior, or informed consent to any fresh water extraction within the Traditional lands that i and my children rely on. There is inadequate consultation from in general for Flying Post 73 members living on their ancestorial lands. I would like to have a meeting and more discussions with the MNR to understand this process of taking fresh water and why it is needed and what effect it may have on the members of Flying Post 73.
