Determining the status of endangered species has no business being decided by politicians, whose views may be skewed by considerations other than the actual status of the creature. It should be up to a committee of those who study science to make that determination. Doing otherwise confirms a public perception of corruptness in politics. It should also be noted that while the current government may view this as a means to and end in promoting 'growth', future governments will be entitled to use this same provision to determine ALL creatures to be endangered. Is that something the current government has considered?
